Let’s explore her take on the latest cocktail culture.

What new cocktail trends have you seen emerge in 2024?
Tea-infused cocktails are increasing in popularity. They’re fantastic because they add layers of complexity and unique flavors without being overpowering. I love using different types of tea to create a diverse range of profiles in my drinks, like the Jasmine Green Tea Strawberry Tom Collins for example.

The other trend gaining steam is a new category – mid-strength. We know non-alcoholic alternatives have been dominating in the last few years as consumer preferences change, but what about those who still want to moderate without going full non-alc or watering down full-proof drinks? Mid-strength spirits are changing the game and provide another option for drinkers who want to enjoy their night without going too crazy and still enjoy the classic cocktail experience. It’s easy too – just swap out your spirit with a mid-strength alternative with the same ratios, 1:1. Its moderation made easy!

With the mid-strength trend growing, what are your favorite options for those looking to enjoy a drink without overindulging?
I love seeing the rise of lower-alcohol drinks because they offer a great way to socialize without the heavy effects of higher ABV options. From RTDs, to spritzes, to mid-strength spirits like Sommarøy Gin and Vodka, it’s never been easier to drink on your own terms.

Some of my favorite cocktails are the simple classics, like a negroni, vesper or cosmopolitan – but watering them down so I can drink more is simply not an option to keep that classic taste. That’s the best part of mid-strength spirits – I can use mid-strength gin or vodka exactly the same in these recipes to keep the taste I love, but make them lower ABV.

What’s one of the most popular cocktails people are ordering right now?
The Espresso Martini jumped back in the top 10 cocktails and is not slowing down. It makes a splash thanks to its perfect blend of coffee and liquor for a smooth, energizing cocktail. People love having these to give them a weekend night boost or nightcap!

Some of the best, fan-favorite cocktails can be on the sugary side. How do you recommend enjoying these drinks while avoiding the pitfalls, like next-day headaches?
I recommend using high-quality spirits and fresh, natural ingredients. Try swapping out the usual mixers with fresh juices and premium liquors to transform these drinks into a much more enjoyable and less hangover-inducing experience.

When customers request a specific drink they had elsewhere that isn’t a classic cocktail, how do you approach creating a custom drink based on their preference?
Rather than trying to replicate it exactly, I prefer to chat with the customer about the flavors and ingredients they liked in that drink. Then, I craft something that captures the essence of what they enjoyed. This way, they get a personalized cocktail that’s crafted to their taste while having a unique experience at my bar.

Any tools or glassware you recommend for the perfect cocktail, mid-strength or otherwise?
When I’m enjoying a mid-strength G&T with Sommarøy, I like to have a few drinks, so a nice glass is key. I love using Libbey rocks glasses because its elegant design enhances the visual appeal of my cocktails. Its durability and clarity allow me to present my cocktails with precision, highlighting the layers and ingredients of every drink.
